The opportunity
The Technical Lead plays a key role in the organisation and works closely with both the Path Out Program and Automation Team, focused on developing automation solutions that solve operational business problems. The role provides technical leadership across Path Out initiatives, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with cloud platform architecture and standards while delivering ongoing business value. You will provide guidance to delivery teams to achieve high-quality, maintainable automation solutions, whilst also supporting the Automation Team in scaling our platforms and enhancing their value to the organisation. The role promotes a user-centered approach, ensuring tailored design, consistent and compliant outcomes, and strong advocacy for business needs.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex applications using Appian.
- Build and enhance SAIL Interfaces, Process Models, Records, Reports, Sites, and Expression Rules.
- Develop reusable components and follow Appian development best practices.
- Design and implement integrations with external systems using REST APIs, SOAP services, and web services.
- Develop and optimize database queries, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers and data models.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application defects, performance issues, and production incidents.
- Collaborate with development teams during design and implementation.
- Support application deployments and release activities across environments.
- Create and maintain technical documentation.
- Participate in sprint activities.
- Provide technical guidance to the peer developers on Appian development.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in leading development activity within automation and digital initiatives, with the ability to align outcomes to strategic business objectives.
- Proven capability in designing and building scalable, maintainable solutions, applying best practice design standards, governance, and risk management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across business and technology teams.

- Expertise in SAIL, Process Models, Records (including service backed records), Reports, Sites, Portals, Expression Rules and Decision Rules.
- Proficient knowledge of Appian Data Fabric, Record Types, and Appian best practices.
- Expertise with Appian integrations using REST, SOAP, Connected Systems, and Web APIs coupled with, practical experience with Appian deployments, package management, and environment migrations.
- Proven experience in SQL (particularly MS SQL SERVER Database) for database design, query optimisation, writing stored procedures, functions, indexes and triggers.
- Experience with JSON, XML, API authentication and OAuth.
- Good knowledge of Appian security, groups, roles, and authorisation models.
- Proficient in troubleshooting Appian application performance, memory-related issues and troubleshoot deadlock related issues.
- Proficient debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Note: This role includes participation in a 24/7 on-call roster, operating on two weeks on, two weeks off rotation, compensation provided.
