The opportunity
The Team Leader, Sewage Treatment is a member of the Sewer Planning leadership team and plays a key role in shaping GWW’s future through integrated, long-term planning. Reporting to the Manager, Sewer Planning, the role leads the Sewage Treatment Planning team to deliver whole-of-life planning solutions for recycled water plants, ensuring investment decisions are aligned with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements and customer outcomes. The position oversees master planning and investment programs, balances short-term service needs with long-term resilience, maintains a strong delivery pipeline, and fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement across GWW.
Responsibilities
- Drive organisational uplift in infrastructure planning capability by contributing to GWW’s Integrated Asset Planning Section leadership, strengthening relationships across GWW, and embedding a coordinated, matrix way of working.
- Build and lead a high-performing team, championing GWW’s culture through strong role modelling of safety, wellbeing, diversity, inclusion, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Lead integrated, whole-of-life planning for GWW’s recycled water plants, developing master plans and strategic investment solutions aligned with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, adaptive pathways and regional needs.
- Balance short-term operational needs with long-term strategic objectives by managing trade-offs, developing a deliverable program of works, and prioritising projects across Service Delivery and Infrastructure Project Delivery.
- Drive innovation and circular economy outcomes, delivering advanced treatment solutions and R&D initiatives that enhance core services, support future regulatory compliance and create long-term value for GWW.
- Strengthen collaboration with Service Delivery by providing expert planning input, supporting day-to-day operations, and driving continuous improvement in treatment performance, compliance, energy efficiency, emissions and asset life.
Skills & Experience
- Strong technical knowledge of wastewater and water recycling treatment processes, technologies, and relevant environmental obligations, including the General Environmental Duty.
- Deep understanding of treatment plant planning, including drivers, challenges, opportunities, policies, and processes that influence decision-making.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including building high-performing teams, fostering capability, and promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Strategic thinking and safety leadership, with the ability to make informed decisions in complex, uncertain environments while role-modelling safe and responsible practices.
- Degree in Engineering or relevant industry experience.
