The opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to join Greater Western Water’s Financial Accounting team. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting, you will oversee daily operations within our Finance Support Office. This role is pivotal in ensuring our Finance Support Office delivers timely, accurate, and high-quality support to Finance and the business. As the Team Leader, you will coach and develop a team of support professionals, foster a positive and high-performance culture, and drive process improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery and contribute to GWW’s 2030 vision of Thriving People and Country.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team to deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee daily support operations to ensure priorities and deadlines are met, in-line with compliance standards and policies.
  • Identify and implement improvements in reporting, processes, and systems to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
  • Provide hands-on support with escalated and more technical queries, problem-solving, and workflow coordination.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and documentation, supporting month-end close, audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other business functions to improve communication, processes, and outcomes.
  • Support business planning and continuous improvement initiatives across Finance.
  • Monitor team performance, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for selected accounts, and respond to ad hoc business queries.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a team leadership or supervisory role within a shared services environment.
  • Strong people leadership skills – able to motivate, coach, and develop a team.
  • Commercial acumen with experience in process improvement and operational support.
  • Excellent communication, documentation and interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration and service excellence.
  • Strong financial accounting knowledge, including general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Proficient systems skills across Microsoft Office, ERP systems (Oracle preferred) and reconciliation tools (Blackline preferred).
  • Data-driven mindset with systems understanding and analytical capability.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting.
