The opportunity
The Team Leader for Community Engagement (Infrastructure) plays a key role in providing advice, guidance, and advocacy for best practices in community engagement, aligned with our Community Engagement Framework. This position oversees a team that assists with the delivery of the GWW infrastructure projects, working with stakeholders and partners to identify emerging issues, amplify community voices, and share insights to enhance decision-making related to our multi-million-dollar capital works program.
Responsibilities
- Drive consistent and high quality community and stakeholder engagement in line with GWW's Framework, develop and deliver complex communications and engagement plans, providing strategic advice, developing innovative solutions to engagement challenges, resolving issues, and collaborating with various teams to promote the benefits of infrastructure projects, enhancing our brand and reputation
- Effectively manage infrastructure projects by prioritising community interests, fostering stakeholder relationships, providing strategic advice and advocating for community outcomes.
- Lead and mentor a team of community engagement professionals to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional development while contributing to the overall uplift in infrastructure engagement approach.
- Support the Growth & Infrastructure Group in managing GWW delivery partners to ensure they meet community engagement commitments and standards, while providing specialist advice on expression of interest and tender processes and reviewing community-facing materials.
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies and community groups, to support engagement activities and collaborate effectively with internal teams and delivery partners.
- Effective budget management involves planning, forecasting, and reporting in alignment with GWW's finance cycle, ensuring that engagement activities and resources meet contract objectives and budgets.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to all organisational policies and procedures.
- Promote ongoing enhancement of GWW's community engagement practices by staying informed on industry best practices and sharing valuable project insights for future initiatives.
- Provide guidance on complex issues with a focus on customer and community needs, provide leadership in incident and crisis management while participating in on-call duties, and contribute to tracking issues management to maintain current progress.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- IAP2 certification
- Proven experience in leading teams to create and implement communications and engagement plans for various infrastructure projects.
- Strong collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in managing expectations and problem-solving to influence outcomes.
- Skilled in risk identification and mitigation strategy development.
- Capable of creating customer-friendly communication materials while prioritising multiple project activities.
