The opportunity

Greater Western Water is seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to join our Financial Control team. Reporting to the Team Leader, Financial Accounting, you will provide timely and accurate financial reporting, support statutory and compliance obligations, and offer expert accounting and technical guidance to the finance team. This role plays a key part in delivering agile, insightful financial information that supports business decision-making while ensuring the company meets all its finance-related compliance and external reporting requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monthly and Quarterly Financial Reporting: Manage and coordinate month-end close and consolidation, including variance analysis against budgets and forecasts. Prioritise and balance conflicting priorities with management support to meet critical timelines. Ensure timely and accurate processing of transaction journals, completion of balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of budgets and forecasts, all in adherence with internal finance policies and procedures. Contribute to monthly finance business reports and quarterly business overviews, including KPIs, financial ratios, and presentations to DTF and DEECA.
  • Statutory Reporting: Oversee and contribute to the preparation of GWW’s Annual Financial Statements in line with DTF and DEECA requirements, including relevant disclosure notes. Coordinate external audits, serving as the key liaison with auditors to achieve alignment on material transactions and accounting judgments. Oversee preparation and submission of other regulatory and government reporting, including SRIM’s submissions and quarterly reporting.
  • Compliance and Technical Accounting: Research, develop, and maintain accounting policies, position papers, and guidance to align with legislative, statutory, and company requirements. Provide guidance on significant accounting judgements, inform and educate stakeholders and finance team members, and act as a subject matter expert in accounting standards. Support preparation and submission of Annual Regulatory Accounts, drive process improvements, and enhance financial acumen across the business.

 

 

Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Financial Accounting and Accounting Standards with experience implementing new accounting standards.
  • 5+ years of relevant financial accounting experience, preferably with CPA/ICA accreditation with big 4 or mid-tier audit experience.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, timely financial and statutory reporting.
  • Proven experience in Business Capability & Performance Management, Commercial Acumen, and Budget Management.
  • Excellent Data & Analytics skills and Systems Thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide Admin & Operational Support to finance teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver to deadlines consistently.
  • Experience driving operational efficiencies, process improvements, and innovation that add value to internal and external customers.
