The opportunity
As Senior Engineer, Asset Optimisation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the performance and sustainability of the water network by leading the identification, development and optimisation of renewal and performance programs. You will translate asset insights, risk and long‑term planning into prioritised, fundable and deliverable initiatives that enhance network performance, manage risk and deliver value across the asset lifecycle. This role bridges strategic intent and operational reality, ensuring renewal and maintenance programs are evidence‑based, aligned to organisational objectives and defined levels of service, and maintain a clear line of sight between the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), Service Level Plan objectives, asset performance, risk and investment decisions. Success in the role will be driven through strong collaboration, enabling programs to be effectively transitioned to delivery in partnership with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead water main renewal programs, defining scope, priorities and CAPEX/OPEX justifications to deliver value‑driven outcomes.
- Translate asset condition, failure and performance data into targeted programs that improve network reliability and service outcomes.
- Own and maintain critical asset data and registers, contributing to State of Assets reporting and performance frameworks.
- Support asset management planning by identifying end‑of‑life and high‑risk assets and recommending optimal interventions aligned to the SAMP and service level plans.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Asset Management Plans.
- Undertake risk‑ and options‑based analysis to inform investment decisions, budgets, forecasts and early‑stage major renewals scope development.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align priorities, adapt programs to emerging risks and enable continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in water or civil asset management, including renewal planning and lifecycle decision‑making for linear assets.
- Strong understanding of asset management frameworks, including Strategic Asset Management Plans (SAMP), levels of service, Asset Management Plans (AMPs) and investment planning.
- Proven ability to analyse asset condition, performance and risk data and translate insights into prioritised, evidence‑based programs and investment decisions.
- Experience developing and managing capital and operational programs, including project prioritisation, pipeline development, business case preparation and performance monitoring.
- Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence technical, operational and corporate stakeholders in a regulated or utility environment.
- Tertiary Qualification in engineering, science or related discipline
