The opportunity
Make an impact in this fixed-term 24-month role!
You will be driving the internal coordination and external representation to develop GWW’s next Urban Water Strategy (UWS), to be delivered early 2027. This strategy will be the basis for how GWW will ensure safe and sustainable water for now and into the next 50 years, how we plan our sewerage services, our preparedness for drought and, how we address the impact of climate change and population growth.
Following the Urban Water Strategy guidelines set out from DEECA, this role will involve extensive collaboration with internal stakeholders, our regional and metropolitan water corporations, community groups and our Traditional Owners. Key to your success in the role will be listening to our diverse stakeholder groups and set out a strategy that addresses key issues and leaves a positive legacy for the future.

Responsibilities
- Develop strategies across urban water strategy and water resource strategy.
- Provide forward-thinking thought leadership, actively questioning the status quo to deliver best practice ideas and solutions that equip GWW with the insights needed to anticipate, adapt to, and shape the future.
- Create policies through collaboration and reflective of current and future factors.
- Liaise and act as an advocate with key partners including DEECA, other water authorities, Local Councils, Melbourne Water and Traditional Owners.
- Representing GWW, as required, on appropriate external committees and working groups.
Skills & Experience
- Knowledge around Victorian water policy and issues including climate change impacts, strategic planning, and development.
- Qualification or experience in water resource engineering, environmental science, catchment management or similar is highly regarded.
- Proven program or project management experience.
- Experience within the government sector would be advantageous.
- Engaging and effective communication skills complemented by the ability to build trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to listen, translate strategic goals into actionable plans, achieve set milestones and, implement innovative outcomes that improve value to customers.
