The opportunity
We’re seeking an Operator, Treatment Plant to support the daily operation of treatment assets, ensuring safe, reliable and uninterrupted alternative water treatment and reuse services for our customers.
Working onsite as part of a collaborative operations team, you will carry out operational activities as directed by senior team members, helping to optimise asset performance, manage operational risks and maintain compliance with regulatory, environmental and quality requirements.
The role also contributes to land management and biodiversity outcomes across treatment sites. Under the guidance of the Senior Field Officer, you will assist with activities that support native vegetation, habitat protection and ecological values, including site monitoring, basic environmental maintenance, and supporting biodiversity improvement programs within operational land holdings.
This role offers hands-on exposure to treatment plant operations alongside land stewardship activities, within a strong safety and teamwork culture that supports environmental sustainability and long-term asset resilience.
Responsibilities
• Support day-to-day operation of treatment plant assets in line with established procedures
• Monitor asset performance using systems such as SCADA and IoT to identify faults and trends
• Participate in operational tasks including sampling, testing and performance optimisation activities
• Issue maintenance work orders and support contractor activities, site inductions and permit-to-work processes
• Identify and escalate operational issues, risks and deviations in a timely manner
• Apply dynamic situational awareness to manage operational and safety risks
• Participate in outages, system changes, investigations and emergency response activities
• Support native vegetation, habitat protection and ecological values improments across various GWW sites
• Contribute to a strong safety culture through active participation in HSEQ initiatives and team discussions
Skills & Experience
• Experience in the operation of water, wastewater or recycled water treatment plants
• Working knowledge of operational and compliance systems (IMS, Water Quality Systems, Asset Management Systems, HACCP)
• Digital literacy with experience using SCADA systems, operational technology, PLCs, alarms and Microsoft Office
• Ability to monitor, record and analyse operational data and instrument readings
• Understanding of safety principles, risk management and hazard controls in an operational environment
• Ability to assess confined and restricted space entry requirements
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team
• Certificate III in Water Treatment or Wastewater Treatment Operations or equivalent experience (highly desirable)
• Current Driver’s Licence (essential)
