The opportunity

The Manager, Water Resources Policy & Strategy will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and policy framework that underpins the sustainable management of water resources across GWW’s region. As a key member of the Strategy and Sustainable Water Futures section, this role ensures compliance with policy and legislative obligations, while driving integrated water management and long-term water security through collaboration with water sector partners across the metropolitan region and beyond. With a whole-of-water-cycle focus, the position oversees governance, policy development, and analytical and modelling capabilities to support informed decision-making and future water sustainability.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of long-term water resource strategy and policy, including adaptive pathways planning and consideration of environmental benefits to deliver optimal regional outcomes.
  • Ensure GWW’s statutory obligations for sustainable water resource stewardship are met, working to DEECA guidance and collaborating with external Melbourne system stakeholders.
  • Drive integrated water management and water efficiency strategies, embedding IWM principles in the planning and delivery of water and wastewater services and delivering programs such as stormwater harvesting partnerships.
  • Understand our Traditional Owner partners’ aspirations for water management in our region and work with DEECA and other partners to deliver on commitments under the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy.
  • Oversee analytical and modelling functions that forecast growth and demand, assess climate impacts and track water system mass balance across the whole water cycle.
  • Provide strong leadership to build a high-performing team and positive culture, championing safety, wellbeing, inclusion and professional growth aligned to GWW’s strategic direction.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior policy, planning or strategy role, within the water sector or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong leadership capability with a proven track record in developing and retaining a diverse, high-performing workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain long-term relationships across internal teams and external partners, delivering collaborative outcomes that support shared goals.
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, environmental science, planning or other relevant field
  • Strong understanding pf the legislative and policy framework underpinning; Victoria’s water resource management
