The opportunity

Greater Western Water is transforming our infrastructure planning to ensure we continue to deliver high quality services to our customers by bringing together infrastructure planning for full asset lifecycle into one section – Integrated Asset Planning. This opportunity leads the Water Planning section in shaping the future of how we deliver water services to our growing community. You’ll play a pivotal role in bringing together planning across networks, treatment, asset management and dam safety to enable holistic, long-term and evidence-based decisions that balance today’s service needs with tomorrow’s challenges.

As part of a forward-looking and collaborative leadership team, you’ll help embed integrated, whole-of-life planning approaches that support sustainable investment, resilience and intergenerational equity. In a context of rapid growth, ageing assets and increasing regulatory expectations, you’ll be required to trade-off investments and guide the development of our long-term investment pipeline. This is your chance to shape the way Greater Western Water plans and delivers services for decades to come — ensuring outcomes that our people, customers and communities can be proud of.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the Water Planning section to deliver integrated, whole-of-life planning for GWW’s water services – through the capability of the section and through partnership with NextGen providers (our future consulting planning and engineering partners)
  • Ensuring long-term planning decisions align with corporate strategy, regulatory settings, and the adaptive pathways set by the Strategy and Partnerhships group
  • Connecting Water Planning with other portfolios and functions to enable holistic, regionally relevant solutions
  • Overseeing the development of master plans, asset management plans and investment programs that define future service and infrastructure needs
  • Delivering investment decisions that consider whole-of-life costs (TOTEX), provide value for money, and delivers on our customer outcomes
  • Guiding prioritisation and trade-offs across both the water portfolio and broader asset portfolio to balance short-term service challenges with long-term resilience and intergenerational equity
  • Maintaining a clear pipeline of projects and programs to support timely delivery through to Infrastructure Project Delivery and Maintenance Engineering
  • Leading a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Water Planning section that extends across IAP and GWW
  • Building strong relationships with leaders across GWW and the water sector to enable positive outcomes

Skills & Experience

  • Deep understanding of asset planning, delivery, and operations, with the ability to integrate long-term strategy and operational performance.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strategic relationships across suppliers, consultants, contractors, external stakeholders and the community.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop and support multiple teams and leaders
  • Strategic thinking – conversion of strategy into plans and programs
  • Program and Portfolio Management – Experience in planning, delivering and monitoring complex programs of work, balancing priorities, resources, and risks
  • Skilled at engaging and influencing senior leaders through clear, outcome-focused communication that translates technical detail into strategic context.
