The opportunity
This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced Operational Technology professional to shape the future of OT systems across critical water and wastewater networks. As the Manager, Operational Technology, you’ll oversee PLCs, RTUs, IoTs, Modems, Dialers, Radio Systems, SCADA, Historians and other OT platforms that enable real-time oversight, autonomous control, and situational awareness of essential infrastructure. You’ll develop and deliver future-ready OT strategies aligned with the organisation’s technology roadmap, asset management priorities, and regulatory obligations.
With responsibility for leading a high-performing OT team, you’ll ensure systems are resilient, secure, and seamlessly integrated. Your work will drive innovation, enhance operational resilience, and safeguard environmental and water quality outcomes across the network.
Responsibilities
• Lead and mentor an OT team, building capability and driving engagement.
• Develop and deliver OT strategies that enable autonomous operations and enhance situational awareness.
• Oversee OT architecture, ensuring OT platforms are reliable, compliant, and fully integrated.
• Ensure high availability and redundancy of OT systems across water, wastewater, and reuse networks.
• Manage OT data and historian systems, ensuring alignment with organisational data strategy and compliance standards.
• Support OT cybersecurity compliance, ensuring systems meet SOCI, NIST, and organisational requirements.
• Oversee integration and commissioning of new OT assets, working closely with Technology and operations teams.
Skills & Experience
• Proven leadership experience in OT, with strong skills in team development and stakeholder management.
• Extensive experience with PLCs, SCADA (GeoSCADA, Citect), historians, and IoT integrations.
• Strong understanding of OT cybersecurity frameworks, compliance standards, and risk management.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver OT projects, system upgrades, and integrations on time and within budget.
• Expertise in OT data management, including analysis, storage, and archiving against compliance standards.
• A degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Process, or related field) or equivalent work experience.
• Experience in water, wastewater, or a utility is highly desirable.
