The opportunity

The Lead, Solution Architect will be responsible for guiding solution architecture across the technology portfolio as part of the Technology, Planning and Portfolio team, reporting to the Manager, Architecture Practice. The role provides Solution Architecture and technical direction for initiatives, ensuring solutions align with GWW’s business objectives, principles, standards, and best practices. Key duties include leading architecture forums such as the Architecture Review Group and Enterprise Architecture Design Authority, participating in related project governance forums for current and new initiatives, driving efficiency and value across initiatives, and overseeing timely, cost-effective delivery of Solution Architecture artefacts through leading Solution Architecture Practice. Engaging with service providers, IT application and operations teams, and business stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and strategic direction for solution architecture across the technology portfolio.
  • Ensure technology solutions meet GWW business objectives, technical standards, and best practices while leading key architecture forums to maintain compliance and reduce operational risks.
  • Oversee the timely, budget-aligned delivery of Solution Architecture artefacts through leading solution architecture practices, engaging with service providers, IT Operations and business stakeholders.
  • Drive and guide solution architecture across GWW projects, ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps and enterprise architecture, delivery of quality artefacts, and effective management of technology risks.
  • Lead and participate in key architecture governance forums, ensuring solution architectures comply with GWW standards, supporting enterprise approvals, and reviewing post-implementation outcomes.
  • Ensure new initiatives are allocated and balanced with the team and aligned to domain skills, including ensuring effective management of project utilisation
  • Ensure Solution Architecture repositories are maintained and relevant governance practices are followed
  • Engage with stakeholders and provide architectural input and oversight for IT PMO projects, ensuring timely responses and effective communication.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive expertise in solution architecture, design methodologies, and enterprise, systems, integration, and security architecture standards and frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the water utility sector strongly regarded.
  • Experience leading solution architecture initiatives and managing architectural practices in large, complex organisations.
  • Skilled in evaluating emerging technologies and managing relationships with vendors, consultants, IT teams, and stakeholders.
  • TOGAF & ITIL certifications (desired)
