The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Head of Technology, Portfolio Delivery to join our senior leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering Greater Western Water’s technology agenda.
As Greater Western Water progresses the modernisation of its legacy technology estate, this role is responsible for oversight of a significant portfolio of business change, technology enabled initiatives. Core to this role is the establishment and implementation of a cohesive framework that aligns the design and delivery of technology initiatives with GWW’s long-term objectives and Technology Strategy. Reporting directly to the CIO and with direct access to Board and Executive, you will lead the governance and delivery of a high-quality, enterprise-wide technology portfolio, driving efficiency through Centres of Excellence and ensuring cost-effective, timely outcomes. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee portfolio management, executive and board reporting on IT portfolio delivery performance, technology deliver partner performance, and talent development to ensure technology roadmaps are successfully delivered.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with business and IT leaders to align technology design and delivery with business outcomes, influence the Technology Strategy, prioritise and deliver initiatives based on value, impact and strategic alignment.
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, represent the voice of technology within the business, and provide clear, insightful executive and board-level reporting on portfolio and delivery performance.
- Lead enterprise-wide technology portfolio management, including investment prioritisation, benefits realisation, pipeline management and development of an integrated portfolio roadmap aligned to strategic objectives.
- Establish and maintain effective portfolio governance, monitoring delivery performance, budgets and forecasts, and recommending corrective and preventative actions where required.
- Ensure all technology solutions are designed and delivered in line with security, privacy, accessibility, ethical and regulatory compliance standards.
- Oversee delivery of the technology roadmap across complex programs and rapid initiatives, ensuring integrated outcomes, effective risk management and the use of fit-for-purpose delivery methodologies.
- Plan, forecast and allocate resources to balance short and long-term demand with capability and capacity, and establish Centres of Excellence to drive consistency, quality and continuous improvement across delivery disciplines.
- Ensure robust quality assurance, testing and defect management practices are embedded across the delivery lifecycle, supported by appropriate tools, processes and standards.
- Manage technology delivery partners to maximise value to the business, including supplier performance, commercial and contract management, and alignment to evolving business needs.
- Manage the technology investment budget in line with organisational financial processes, clearly articulating the value delivered and identifying opportunities for cost optimisation.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing and engaged technology team, fostering a collaborative, accountable and performance-driven culture.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in complex software systems implementation and/or legacy systems replacement.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in leading a technology project delivery function.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent influencing skills to enable the prioritisation and alignment of transformational business change, technology enabled initiatives.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to connect and prioritise technology investments in line with business objectives.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear and actionable insights.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- At least 7 years in a leadership or managerial role.
