The opportunity

Greater Western Water is looking for a senior leader to drive enterprise-wide asset management excellence. Reporting to the General Manager, Asset Planning & Delivery, and as part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will align corporate strategy with asset management governance and practices, develop frameworks and service levels that guide asset management across the organisation, lead risk management for our critical assets, enhance asset information and technology, lead the development, governance and assurance of engineering standards and drive continuous improvement in our asset management maturity. This is a strategic role that shapes how Greater Western Water manages and invests in its assets to deliver sustainable, high-quality outcomes.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of GWW’s Asset Management system, including policies, frameworks, Strategic Asset Management Plans, Service Level Plans, and assurance practices to support GWW’s corporate objectives and enhance organisational asset management maturity.
  • Ensure asset information is accurate, accessible, and effectively managed across the entire asset lifecycle, supporting decision-making and service delivery across all business functions.
  • Provide product ownership of asset information management platforms on behalf of asset managers and users.
  • Provide strategic leadership of asset risk management, including risk assessments, mitigation strategies, criticality evaluations, resilience planning, and investment prioritisation to optimise asset performance.
  • Set the strategic direction for asset engineering standards and products, manage standards and approved products to facilitate performance and long-term value across the asset lifecycle.
  • Oversee asset assurance across the asset lifecycle, including engineering governance (approvals and dispensations), design reviews and field inspections, to meet regulatory and organisational requirements, and inform delivery partner accreditation.
  • Translate corporate strategy into actionable operational plans, supporting enterprise decision-making and driving initiatives that improve asset performance, resilience, and value.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, internal stakeholders, and external partners to influence strategic outcomes and deliver holistic, sustainable asset solutions.

 

 

Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience managing significant asset portfolios in complex, regulated environments.
  • Expertise in asset management maturity models, frameworks, and standards (e.g., GFMAM, AMAF, ISO 55000 series).
  • Strong business capability and performance management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience leading people, culture, and organisational change to foster high-performance teams and a “can do” attitude.
  • Advanced understanding of risk management and commercial acumen in asset-intensive operations.
  • Experience with asset management IT platforms, digital transformation, and implementing emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in dynamic, customer-focused, and technically complex environments.
  • Knowledge of urban development drivers, policies, and processes, with a focus on delivering positive community outcomes.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, consultants, contractors, industry bodies, councils, and government.
  • Strong safety leadership, role modelling, and commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and organisational culture.
