The opportunity
As the Control Systems Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining, diagnosing, and optimising our automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, telemetry, and instrumentation across treatment plants and network sites.
You’ll be part of a collaborative and highly skilled maintenance engineering team that ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operations, while supporting upgrades, system integration, and continuous improvement.
This role offers hands-on field engagement, technical problem-solving, and the opportunity to contribute to the long-term reliability and cybersecurity of critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
• Maintain, diagnose, and optimise PLC, HMI, SCADA, and control systems across water and wastewater assets
• Support system maintenance, upgrades, and fault response to minimise downtime and risk
• Manage change control processes, documentation, and cybersecurity compliance
• Provide technical support for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of automation systems
• Contribute to design reviews, configuration, and system improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to drive operational reliability
Skills & Experience
• Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent)
• Strong experience in control system design, programming, and maintenance
• Proficiency in automation platforms including Schneider Electric and Rockwell Automation
• Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, DNP3) and cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443).
• Proven ability to support field commissioning, troubleshooting, and integration work
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
• Current Australian driver’s licence (required)
• A-grade electrical licence (desirable)
