The opportunity
The Engineer, Projects is responsible for delivering Greater Western Water’s minor capital works program by ensuring projects are effectively scoped, scheduled, approved, and executed. The role manages key stakeholders, coordinates internal and external resources, and monitors project costs, quality, and risks throughout the project lifecycle. The position ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget, with seamless handover to operations so assets are safe, operable, and ready to meet service requirements. The Engineer, Projects also contributes to the continuous improvement of minor capital delivery processes and supports the alignment of works with broader operational and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver minor capital projects by ensuring works are appropriately scoped, scheduled, and executed in line with GWW policies, Australian Standards, WSAA and MRWA codes, and organisational objectives.
- Monitor and manage project performance by tracking progress, identifying risks or issues early, and implementing corrective actions to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Coordinate stakeholders and project resources by working closely with internal teams, contractors, and consultants to align activities with operational requirements and maintain strong working relationships to support smooth delivery.
- Provide technical and financial oversight by reviewing designs and specifications, supporting project decision-making, and monitoring OPEX and CAPEX to ensure effective budget management and resource utilisation.
- Support operational readiness and asset handover by facilitating commissioning, documentation, and training requirements, while managing workloads and priorities to ensure projects transition seamlessly into ongoing operations.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering minor capital works projects, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating internal and external resources.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with operational teams, contractors, consultants, and delivery partners.
- Demonstrated capability in managing project risks, identifying issues early and implementing mitigation strategies across the project lifecycle.
- Experience supporting commissioning, operational readiness, and asset handover, ensuring new assets are safely and effectively integrated into operations.
- Ability to prepare and manage key project documentation, including business cases, approvals, operations and maintenance manuals, and as-constructed records.
- Sound financial and organisational skills, including monitoring OPEX and CAPEX, supporting procurement processes, and managing competing priorities and workloads.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or Asset Management (or equivalent experience), with desirable experience in the water, wastewater, or regulated utility sector and familiarity with asset and project management systems.
