The opportunity

The Senior Specialist, Water Quality Risk & Planning provides specialised water quality expertise to support GWW's management of drinking water as a trusted provider for communities. The role involves offering technical support and knowledge to GWW staff, partners, and customers in planning and preparing drinking water management frameworks that ensure best practices and address emerging water quality risks. Success in this position relies on building strong relationships within the business and industry networks, utilising operational experience, and applying controls to manage water quality issues throughout the asset lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic activities to enhance water quality, protect sources, improve infrastructure, promote sustainability, raise community awareness, and involve Traditional Owners in water management.
  • Prepare GWW for changes in drinking water regulations, support quality programs, assist with the transition to ISO certification, review risk management frameworks for water quality, and lead the Drinking Water Quality Executive Committee's risk working group.
  • Manage relationships with bulk water suppliers, enhance water quality knowledge among staff, provide evidence-based reports for water quality issues, and offer technical support during water quality incidents.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the water quality industry, effectively communicate complex information, stay informed on regulatory changes, and enhance GWW's reputation while ensuring compliance.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent
  • Postgraduate in Water Quality (Desirable)
  • Extensive experience ensuring drinking water quality complies with regulatory standards.
  • Proficient in water quality principles, including risk management plans and frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and capability to build relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently within a team and proactively solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality assurance systems and relevant water quality legislation.
